Grace Visits Chesapeake – April 13, 2015

Grace has made a trip to Chesapeake, then returned to Hog Island on the James River.  Her journey – YELLOW arrow Isle of Wight County north of Smithfield, PINK pointer Elizabeth River near High Rise bridge in Chesapeake, GREEN pointer North Landing River Chesapeake, LIGHT BLUE pointer Fentress in Chesapeake, ORANGE pointer Stumpy Lake Chesapeake & Virginia Beach, PURPLE pointer A&C Canal in Chesapeake, DARK BLUE pointer Churchland in Portsmouth, and back to Hog Island WHITE arrow April 13 at 4:00pm.

Grace in Isle of Wight April 10, 2015

Grace has left Hog Island Wildlife Management Area – YELLOW arrow –  and is now in Isle of Wight County, VA. Grace as of this satellite map is north of Smithfield, VA on the north end of the Pagen River – April 10 at 5:00am – WHITE arrow.

Grace Remains at Hog Island April 6, 2015

Grace is still at Hog Island Wildlife Management Area on the James River in Surry County, VA. The Dominion Virginia Power Surry Plant is adjacent to Hog Island WMA. Bald eagles are known to gather at this location. You may recall that bald eagle KE spent time here. As of this satellite map Grace is on a spit of land with a few Loblolly pine trees – WHITE arrow April 6 at 5:00pm.

Grace Returns to Virginia March 29 – Post 4/1/2015

After spending the winter months in North Carolina, Grace has returned to Virginia. Grace left the Tidewater Research Station near Plymouth, NC (YELLOW arrow) about Noon on March 29 and crossed back into Virginia about 4:30pm. She spent the night in the North Landing River Natural Area in Virginia Beach (GREEN). From there on March 30 she flew to Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge (BLUE) then straight north along the Virginia Beach ocean front to First Landing State Park to spend the night (ORANGE). On March 31 she flew across the Lynnhaven River and close to her natal home at Saw Pen Point (YELLOW PIN about 9:30am) to Lake Smith (PURPLE) at Noon.  From there Grace flew north across the Chesapeake Bay and spent the night in Gloucester County, VA (DARK BLUE). The morning of April 1 Grace flew south crossing the York River and the James River to Surry County, VA (YELLOW pointer at Noon). As of this satellite map Grace is at Hog Island on the James River in Surry, VA (WHITE arrow April 1 at 5:00pm).
